A quick step on the wrong pedal caused one New Jersey driver to make an unscheduled stop at Golden Nails & Spa 2 in Sloatsburg Sunday morning.
The problem was that the nail salon was closed and the red Honda Civic jumped the curb and sidewalk and crashed through Golden Nails’ front door, smashing out the entryway and demolishing the reception area.
The salon’s front register was shoved backward into the salon and the entry display and waiting area were taken out by the Civic’s intrusion. No bystanders were injured when the car leapt the walk.
The accident caused a morning stir and drew a crowd, especially the folks from Golden Nails, who had just arrived to open for the day at around 10 a.m. The salon, located in the center village, is always abuzz with activity, especially on Sundays, with customers constantly dropping in to get nails done or the kinks worked out of their shoulders.
“We’re open but we’re not open,” said a Golden Nails employee on the phone. “A car ran into our store.”
“Too much alcohol so early in the day,” said another member of the salon staff, as he swept up glass in the front of the store just after noon. He indicated that Ramapo Police eventually took the driver of the red Honda Civic away in hand cuffs.
The salon will be closed at least through Monday and most probably into mid-week.
