Weekend Train Traffic Disrupted As Tuxedo Tracks Get Storm Hardened

Weekend train traffic from Sloatsburg to Harriman will be disrupted through mid-August due to Port Jervis Line infrastructure improvements.

Friday evening will again see the sounds of silence as  trains stop running through Sloatsburg and Port Jervis through the weekend. Metro-North service on the Port Jervis Line has been suspended during weekend hours through mid-August as bridge rehabilitation work continues near the Tuxedo Train Station.

TuxedotraintrackrepairsAccording to NJ Transit, the Port Jervis Line will not operate between Harriman and Suffern, NY during weekend hours due to infrastructure improvements along the tracks through August 15-17. Normal service remains Monday thru Friday.

The storm hardening work is part of Metro-North’s effort to secure and improve railroad tracks and embankments along the Ramapo River in and around Tuxedo. The repair and rehabilitation project is part of the on-going Metro-North effort to combat increased rain and flooding along the Port Jervis Line, which saw the line damaged when Tropical Storm Irene and Hurricane Sandy blew the through northeast several years back.

According to NJ Transit, customers traveling beyond Suffern station after the 12:40 a.m. Saturday morning will catch buses at Ramsey Route 17. Bus transportation will replace trains between Harriman and Suffern during weekends through August 15-17.

Saturday and Sunday

TuxedoTrainTracksWeekend eastbound trains from Port Jervis will dispatch passengers at Harriman for bus transfers to Ramsey Route 17. Customers will board trains at Ramsey Route 17 to continue to Secaucus and Hoboken.

Weekend travelers boarding at Tuxedo and Sloatsburg train stations will be transported by bus to Ramsey Route 17. Customers on certain eastbound trains will be delayed up to 20 minutes to Secaucus and Hoboken as they hold for bus connections at Ramsey Route 17.

Westbound trains will operate between Hoboken and Suffern, with a stop at Ramsey Route 17, where passengers traveling to stations beyond Suffern will transfer to buses at Ramsey Route 17. Customers traveling beyond Harriman will transfer to a shuttle train at Harriman.
