Weekend Roundup

Posted on 10 May 2013 by Editor

Rain or shine there is something going on somewhere around the village this weekend. From a Tuxedo art show and afternoon tea, to flowers aplenty, the Farmers’ Market, and Mother’s Day Sunday dinner.

The Sloatsburg Post Office will take part in a Food Pantry food drive pick-up during Saturday’s mail delivery. Just set any food donations at your mail box and your mail carrier will pick them up. No perishables, please.

St. Elizabeth’s Chapel off Eagle Valley Road continues it’s Spring Flower Sale Friday afternoon until 7 p.m. If you’ve never been, the Chapel will be filled with flats, potted plants, hanging baskets, and an assortment of other spring plantings. The sale also continues all day Saturday, May 11, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. You can call for information during sale hours at 753-5338.

And if Eagle Valley is just too out of the way, mosey on over to St. Joan of Arc Church in Sloatsburg, which will also be holding a weekend flower sale. So, there are plenty of fresh spring flowers to drop magically at someone’s feet.

Tuxedo should be lit up Friday evening. Both the Annual Art Show at the Train Station takes place at 6 p.m. through 8 p.m. There’s a $15 donation that benefits the Tuxedo Parks & Recreation Department and includes your participation in a wind and cheese reception.

George F. Baker High School will also hold a spring Spirit Rally for current students, alumni, parents, and community members Friday evening, May 10, beginning at 6 pm. There will be music, free food, entertainment, and introduction of all the outstanding Tuxedo sports teams. Transportation for students from Greenwood Lake students will be provided.

A rain date has been set for May 17. So rain rain go away.

If this all tires you out, duck into the Tuxedo Junction to rest and watch Dave Dowling do his thing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m..

On Saturday, May 11, the Tuxedo Farmers’ Market will take place at the Tuxedo Train Station from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. The market will have all the fresh food and flowers one could want to whip up a special Mother’s Day moment.

While at the market Saturday, take in Steeped In The Arts, part of the Tuxedo Art Show (the free part). The event takes place May 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tuxedo Train Station. Again, admission is free.

If you’re already exhausted, rest up and then go at at night to catch the Snoozkas Giants at Tuxedo Junction. The two man band will provide some pick-me-up.

Call Characters for your Mother’s Day dinner reservation, Sunday, May 12. Then go to bed because another week awaits.
