Water Breaks And Other Sewer Aches

Posted on 22 October 2013 by Editor

The construction grind down along Grant Street at Washington Avenue continues. And so do the water breaks.

SESsewerworkApparently, concrete blasting by Carbro, the Rockland County Sewer District 1 subcontractor on the job, caused a water leak at Grant Street Tuesday late afternoon. Crews are attempting to fix the break, which is the third in a series so far for the current project, which covered the area around Sloatsburg Elementary School and now along Washington Avenue and the various “President” streets.

One Sloatsburg resident who lives in the Grant Street neighborhood was heard to say that the contractors “don’t appear to know what they’re doing” because of the previous and current water breaks.

Assistant Director of the Rockland County Sewer District 1 said that residents affected by sewer construction have been notified door-to-door and that detour signs have been set up on streets.

“When you’re digging a hole in the ground there will be some inconveniences,” Saber said, adding that the dead-end streets in the current part of Sloatsburg with on-going sewer work makes for a particularly difficult traffic situation.

Saber said that Sheridan and Washington Avenue, main sewer lines, along with Grant Street, should be complete this week, leaving service hook-up connections work, which involves individual lines that feed from the main water line to the houses.

The village is expected to meet with Carbro and the Rockland Sewer District 1 officials on Wednesday to discuss issues related to the project.
