Walk The Sunny Streets Of Suffern Sunday

Posted on 15 September 2013 by Editor

It’s a good late summer day to take a walk down Lafayette Aveneue, the Village of Suffern’s main street. This afternoon you’ll be able to stroll and loiter and look all day, walking right down the middle of the road, visiting shops while you people watch during the Suffern Greater Chamber of Commerce Street Fair, the last of the season.

SuffernStreetFairSeptThere will be arts and crafts, karaoke for those exhibitionists, exhibits and rides and food, and plenty of free parking. The event itself is also free. So feel free to enjoy a Western Ramapo day under a sunny dome.

“We’re working hard to freshen things up a bit in an effort to attract visitors to the area and to its business community. There is so much history in western Rockland, and so many great places for people to eat and to shop,” said Greater Suffern Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Daycock.

Sunday’s Suffern Street Fair takes place from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. along Lafayette Avenue in the heart of Suffern and should offer a little something for everyone, from plentiful food, to local musicians and activities for kids — all sponsored by the Greater Suffern Chamber of Commerce as a way to highlight Suffern as both destination and thriving village — and draw businesses from around the area.

“This year, we want our street fairs to be something a bit more special than they have been in the past – something that area residents can enjoy and something that lets visitors know what a great area this is to visit,” Daycock said.

Sloatsburg Yard Sales

In Sloatsburg, St. Joan of Arc Church just off Rt. 17 on Eagle Valley Road will be holding its annual yard and bake sale. And Edith and Henry Knoblick are selling off the contents of the old Blue Barn, a popular Sloatsburg antiques store from yesteryear as the couple prepares to renovate and reopen the property. The Blue Barn will hold an all-day yard sale and is located across the street from the Sloatsburg Library on Rt. 17.

The Suffern Street Fair takes place Sunday, June 2, from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. along Lafayette Avenue in Suffern. The event is free and will include arts and crafts street vendors as well as food and activities.
