Waldron Terrace Bridge Open To Traffic

Posted on 13 December 2013 by Editor

waldronterraceopenRemember way back when Seven Lakes Drive was flooded from Hurrican Irene? Both the main bridge that crosses the Ramapo River and the old Waldron Terrace bridge that spanned Stony Brook were washed clean out.

The old Waldron Terrace bridge was taken out during Hurrican Irene in August 2011.

Built in approximately 1910, the old Waldron Terrace span was a crashed and tangled mess from rushing waters and uprooted trees. December 2013 marks the official opening of the new Waldron Terrace bridge, which opened to traffic Thursday, December 12. Hudson Valley Bridge, the state subcontractor that built the new span, still has to dismantle parts of the old bridge and finish landscaping, but the new solid wide span is open to traffic. The final landscaping will take place in the spring.

Next up? Sewers for the Waldron Terrace neighborhood.

waldronterraceopen2The old narrow Waldron Terrace bridge was long overdue a major facelift after repeated citations for being deficient and dangerous by inspectors in recent years, mostly due to lacking sufficient embankment protection and providing minimal tolerable limits of traffic and subject to, well, trees possibly taking it out as the travel rapidly downstream in flood waters.

Rockland County Sewer District 1 Assistant Director Mike Saber said that sewer work in the neighborhood should begin shortly after the completion of the new Waldron Terrace. Due to the unique geography of Waldron Terrace, which is a very narrow street that runs adjacent to the Ramapo River, the District expects sewer construction to last a minimum of six months.
