The fun and cookies offered a brief relief from the business at hand at last week’s special Village Board Reorganization meeting, which saw new Trustees Thomas Buckley, Jr. and Dan O’Leary sworn in.
The annual meeting is also where the mayor makes any appointments to boards or commissions.
After the swearing-in ceremony of the two new trustees, who won their seats in the recent November election, Mayor Carl Wright jumped in and began the appointment process by reappointing Thomas F. Bollatto as village Treasurer and Clerk. Bollatto, a Sloatsburg native whose father served two years as Sloatsburg mayor and also served as a Village Trustee, has guided Sloatsburg as Village Clerk for some 40 plus years. His recently appointed term runs through 2016.
Marianne Dolan was appointed Deputy Village Clerk and Treasurer, a term that runs through 2013. Harrison O. Bush will continue his run as Village Historian.
Through his authority to make village appointments, Mayor Wright assigned Trustee John Bonkoski as Deputy Mayor. Bonkoski, with the recent turnover in trustees, becomes the longest tenured village trustee. He was also appointed Fire Commissioner. Bonkoski is a former chief of the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Dan O’Leary was assigned as Commissioner of Public Works. Peter Akey will be Liaison to Planning/Zoning as well as Scholarship/Youth Activities. New Trustee Buckley will become Liaison to the Sloatsburg Public Library as well as Community Development. Some of these positions will be shared by current trustees.
Glen Thompson was reappointed Chairman of the Sloatsburg Planning Board, while Michael Dolan was reappointed Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Sloatsburg has retained as its legal counsel the Suffern law firm of Balsamo, Byrne, Cipriani & Ellsworth.
And for those curious about Village Board meetings, they will officially be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month at 7:30 p.m.
The Sloatsburg Village Board meets for the last time this year Tuesday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sloatsburg Municipal Building.
