The Sloatsburg Village Board met for the first time in 2012, with Mayor Carl Wright steering the agenda to a rapid finish. Sloatsburg Fire Department representatives were scheduled to meet with the board in a working session after the public agenda was completed.
Mark Reimer, an 11-year village board member was designated Deputy Mayer and Commissioner of Public Works for another year. Reimer swept into office during around the contentious last days of Mayor Abate’s village stewardship as a citizen advocate for controlled development and open public hearings. Jane Thompson replaces Jeanne Scanlon as secretary to the Planning and Zoning Board. Thompson also serves as President of the Sloatsburg Library Board of Trustees. Alternate members for the Planning Board were selected and include Robert Green and Ron Kansky.
January 24th is the date for the Community Development Public Hearing.
Mayor Wright, as usual, had a few interesting words during the proceedings on the historical significance of the various citations and remembrances the board awards. The mayor briefly discussed former Village Trustee August Sauer, a Vietnam Vet who only served on the board from 1972-1974 but helped head off the Lafeyatte Theater in Suffern from being turned into an XXX rated movie house back in 1973.
