The halls and quiet stained-glass interiors of St. Mary’-In-Tuxedo Episcopal Church will be losing it’s energetic leader soon. The Reverend Elizabeth McWhorter recently announced her retirement to the church’s congregation and community. McWhorter has led the church through many a seasonal Blessing of the Animals, yard sale and pre-school class, all while tending to St. Mary’s buildings and grounds and congregation.
The Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Rev. Betty at its Wednesday, October 14 meeting at 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s-In-Tuxedo Episcopal Church. The evening will feature a light dinner and history of the church and information on the transition from Rev. McWhorter’s successful tenure.
Wednesday’s Tuxedo Chamber meeting will also dig into the Chamber’s strategic planning for the future.
A sweet piece of publicity for any town
Tuxedo Chamber President Bill Sweet has helped steer the Chamber through a number of contentious and complex community issues, including growing membership, the Genting Casino proposal, the downsizing of George Baker High School, the longtime in the making Tuxedo Reserve/Farms development, and a rebranding of Tuxedo itself as the town embraces the surrounding parks as a recreation destination.
Sweet was recently quoted about Tuxedo Farms development in The New York Times, which is certainly something to crow about — and good publicity for any chamber group.
