Bill Sweet and Lisa Favia sat patiently at the spacious Tuxedo Train Station, afternoon light brightening the interior, town Christmas tree towering at one end. The Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce dynamic duo were open for business for the day at the chamber’s new public digs.

The popular Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce Holiday Mixer will be held Thursday, December 12, at 6 p.m. at Tuxedo Junction Inn and provides a perfect opportunity to meet other chamber members.

As president of the Tuxedo Chamber for the last several years, Sweet has quietly built up membership and interest in the group as a viable asset for local businesses. The chamber currently has some 50 members   and is growing.

Sweet and Favia, the chamber’s executive director who regularly promotes the group’s events, have built up the Tuxedo Chamber website by focusing on individual member information — the upgraded site is due to relaunch in the new year and emphasize integrated chamber events and member activities.

The next step forward for the group will be a move into the Tuxedo Train Station. Sweet and Favia, the chamber’s executive director, recently got approval from the Town of Tuxedo for the chamber to use the Tuxedo Train Station as a base of operations.

“It’s right in the heart of town,” Sweet said, adding that it will provide the organization access to busy commuters whenever the chamber is promoting events. It also allows people curious about the chamber to stop by and get information.

Regular Tuxedo Chamber office hours at the Train Station will take place in the new year, with members volunteering a few hours of time during certain days of the week.
