The Sloatsburg Library quietly produces a whole lot of local programming. A glance at its calendar this past year shows any number of events and activities for kids and adults, through all seasons. Add in special community programming this past summer and fall with a whole selection of farmers markets and educational efforts such as Summer Reading and it makes sense that the Library is an important community center.
Recently, Katie Hardiman has tweaked teen programming which has gotten traction featuring writing workshops, a new Graphic Novel Club other activities and events aimed at that demographic sweet spot. Adult clubs have experienced an uptick in interest too, such as the Monthly Adult Book Club — run by Laura Van Ham.
In terms of kids programs, Doreen Hart (who is responsible for the Library’s Children’s Programming)has been on a roll. There was even a pig in the parking lot, thanks to late November’s funtastic Outragehisss Pets program. Look for more nature fun in February with Birds of Prey, which will feature lots of cool live bird beaks and talons.
The Library’s latest winter newsletter puts everything into focus for patrons, from holiday fare to ukulele lessons, writing workshops, crafts, Movie Mondays and Matinees, to daily activities and other events — the newsletter spells it out in color. You can even check out Consumer Reports, for free, via the Library’s nifty Research Database on its website. The database contains a whole host of free services offered to patrons. All one has to do is have a Sloatsburg Library card.
With Sloatsburgers turning attention to the holiday season, the Library has conjured two interesting events this December — A Colonial Holiday Celebration on Monday, December 17, at 7 p.m., and a special movie extravaganza featuring the holiday classic The Polar Express. The movie extravaganza is a family affair that will be held in the Library’s Community Room, complete with hot chocolate, popcorn and cookies.
Oh yeah, look for a visit from Santa himself, too.
