The Sloatsburg Library Celebrates Summer Reading

Libraries across the state are busy preparing for the annual Summer Reading program which invites kids from elementary school through middle and high school to read a few good books over summer break.

The Sloatsburg Public Library has planned for an afternoon of sound science this Friday, June 22, when it kicks off its Summer Reading effort. The annual sign-up for the Summer Reading session begins at 1 p.m., with a special show Sounds Like Science by Mad Science of the Hudson Valley.

The local Summer Reading program is one of the library’s most important community outreach and educational programs, according to SPL Director Annmarie McAnany, who said Summer Reading is vital to helping instill an early love for reading in young kids and students.

The program encourages village kids to remain engaged with reading and learning during the summer months, and includes a creative rewards program of prizes such as gift certificates.

Friday’s program allows parents and students to visit the Sloatsburg Library for a fun afternoon and sign up for Summer Reading.

The Sloatsburg Library joins some 1,100 other libraries throughout New York State Friday as it kicks an initiative that encourages kids to explore their local libraries, something that also helps build future library patrons..

Call the Sloatsburg Library circulation desk at 753-2001 or visit online and sign up for Summer Reading.
