The Rockland County Chief’s association acknowledged area firefighters and handed out awards this past week, a time when firefighters across Rockland County were celebrated.

New City Fire Department Chief Kenny Flynn was named Chief of the Year. Gordon Wren Sr., former chief of the all-volunteer Hillcrest Fire Department and member for some 70 years, was awarded the Jerome Trachtenberg Service Award, presented to the person who promotes outstanding service to the Rockland County Fire Chief’s Association. The Sloatsburg Fire Department played host to the Rockland County Fire Chiefs’ Association’s Old-Timers Night dinner the last day of March. Leading up to the event, members of the fire department were busy readying the Fire Hall, cooking and cleaning, setting up tables and decorations in preparation for the the Chiefs’ Association’s 60th anniversary celebration. It was the first time Sloatsburg hosted the important event. But there was also another first. Outgoing RCFCA president was Anthony Massaro, a former fire chief from Sloatsburg. Continue Reading
