The NYSDOT Region 8 is set to provide a Sloatsburg Complete Streets Project informational status update to the Village Board at the Municipal Building on Tuesday, February 13, at 6 p.m.
Sloatsburgers last got together some seven months ago to discuss the on-going Complete Streets project with the New York State Department. The Tuxedo Hudson Company was recently awarded a $750,000 Mid-Hudson Economic Development Council grant for its proposed Tuxedo/Sloatsburg revitalization effort that includes demolishing the old Tuxedo Inn building and a complete renovation of the former IGA into office space and a restaurant.
Sometimes progress can appear in the smaller details. This holiday season Sloatsburg and Tuxedo have vibrant light displays along Route 17 going through the center of the communities. The idea of a viable trail town experience in Rockland County came to life this summer with colorful New Jersey Transit train posters promoting park adventure.
The wooden bridge in the woods photo featured on the jazzy posters was donated to the cause by local Suffern photographer Michael Malandra.
Rockland County Tourism’s Lucy Redzeposki collaborated with the Suffern Chamber of Commerce and Alexandria Evans of Explore Harriman on the project, which sought to promote Rockland’s profile as a park destination. The main “Blue Barn” property that is the centerpiece of Michael Bruno’s Sloatsburg Village center development plan that looks to create a bucolic hiking, biking, foodie corridor from Sloatsburg to Tuxedo, with the Village itself as a destination for adventurers.
