The Tuxedo Hudson Company was recently awarded a $750,000 Mid-Hudson Economic Development Council grant for its proposed Tuxedo/Sloatsburg revitalization effort that includes demolishing the old Tuxedo Inn building and a complete renovation of the former IGA into office space and a restaurant.
Sometimes progress can appear in the smaller details. This holiday season Sloatsburg and Tuxedo have vibrant light displays along Route 17 going through the center of the communities. The Blue Barn Market in Sloatsburg has been open weekends and will soon close for the season, scheduled to open again in the spring or summer 2017.
When all is said and done, Michael Bruno has already made a material difference in the Village of Sloatsburg. He bought a few properties and opened a quaint farm stand, sure. But he has also offered a picture of a kind of future for Sloatsburg as a destination for hikers and bikers, where people from New York and throughout the Hudson Valley visit the village and stay a moment — instead of speeding through while glancing at boarded up buildings. The old Blue Barn property in Sloatsburg is set to change hands and become the French Resistance, a European-style coffee house and cafe, complete with gardens — a Michael Bruno and Tuxedo Hudson Company signature effort.
Edith and Henry Knoblick are longtime Sloatsburg residents who invested heavily in revitalizing Sloatsburg’s village center. Back in 2013 the couple purchased the old Waldron property directly across from the Sloatsburg Library with a vision that it could again serve as an important part of life and help spark some downtown renewal. Michael Bruno’s new Tuxedo Hudson Company kicked off a billboard promotion campaign along the Tuxedo/Sloatsburg corridor, announcing that something is coming this way soon.
The splashy billboards were just raised along Route 17 with a ‘Coming Soon’ message, but the Tuxedo Hudson Company has already made a local impact in Tuxedo and Sloatsburg.
