Suffern High School students continue their week-long mid-terms and NYS Regents Exams this week but will be out of school this Friday, January 27. Only those students with scheduled Regents exams in Global History and Geography and RCT in Writing are due to report to school Friday — as well as students who must take make-up mid-terms or final exams.
Suffern has recently transitioned to a new website that provides a much more user-friendly interface that includes a News & Announcements section, as well as Quick Links, a section that provides access to important school information and downloadable documents. Documents come in various formats and include such as items as order forms and updated event calendars. The overall site is more comprehensive in featuring Suffern High School information for both students and parents.
Suffern High’s transition reflects the nationwide transitioning of educational materials into digital format, with added emphasis on supplementing classroom discussion with online material. Apple just announced it’s big iBooks2 initiative for the iPad, which will allow students to mark-up lessons digitally, essentially creating interactive textbooks. Apple is forming partnerships with three of the biggest publishers of school texts for the initiative –Pearson, MaGraw-Hill and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which together are responsible for 90% of the textbook market in the U.S.
