Suffern Fall Play A Farce

Posted on 25 September 2012 by Editor

The drama on stage this fall at Suffern High School will be full of one-line zingers and comedic mixups compliments of Neil Simon. The school’s Fall Play will be Rumors, a frothy concoction about a chaotic dinner party where nearly everyone has something to hide.

The play’s central story involves a dinner party with friends gathering to celebrate their host’s 10-year wedding anniversary. But their host is locked away in an upstairs bedroom with an odd injury that causes the guests to create any number of stories to cover for their friend, the deputy mayor. Rumors was Simon’s first farce and played Broadway to big audiences. New York Times theater critic Frank Rich gave it a backhanded compliment saying, “Rumors is to farce what a sitcom is to comedy” — not a bad thing at all when you’r going for the gut.

The play provides an opportunity for a big, mixed cast, and this year director Kathy Muenz has done just that, casting approximately 17 students. Some parts are double cast and performances will be alternated during the play’s November run — November 8, 9, and 10, with two performances on Saturday. This year’s cast includes:

Ken Gorman – Ben Silver

Chris Gorman – Alena Gallagher/Sophie Koreto

Claire Ganz – Dunahay Pereyra/Kathryn Notley

Lenny Ganz – Nick Gaglio

Ernie Cusack – Sammy Sandler

Cookie Cusack – Sylvanna Gross/Grace Cunningham

Glenn Cooper – Ben Hack/Danny Klein

Cassie Cooper – Julia Schnurr/Kirsten Meehan

Officer Welch – Nick Ruth/Liz Markelova

Officer Pudney – Jessica Malim/Deirdre Quinn

Asst. Directors – Laura Stedge, Deirdre Quinn, Liz Markelova

Rumors will be performed November 8, 9 and 10 at Suffern High School. To keep track of ticket sales and performance dates, visit here.
