Note: The Village of Suffern Annual Christmas Parade has been moved to Sunday, December 7, at 5 p.m.
If you happen to be driving through the Village of Suffern this Black Friday look to pitch in. The Suffern Police Benevolent Association will be conducting its annual Bucket Drive at the corner of Lafayette & Washington Avenue, collecting coins and other funds for its holiday toy drive.
All funds collected through the D.A.R.E. fundraiser are used to purchase gifts for Suffern community children in need whose families might need a little extra help with the holidays. The SPD D.A.R.E. program educates about drug abuse awareness while also promoting community interaction. Suffern D.A.R.E. includes a street hockey league open to all 2nd through 12th graders in the Ramapo Central School district, as well as D.A.R.E. barbecues at the Suffern Village Pool, an annual Yankee game trip, snow tubing trip, and 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.
Sunday, December 7, look for the gift giving season to be welcomed in as Suffern sponsors its annual Christmas Parade down Lafayette Avenue in the center village, beginning at 5 p.m. Led by fire trucks and floats and other surprises, the procession starts at 5 p.m. and makes its way to the Suffern Gazebo in Avon Park for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
The Salvation Army choir will entertain with caroling and song. The village welcomes all residents to attend the occasion.
Children of all ages will also have the opportunity to visit with Santa at the Suffern Community Center immediately after the Tree Lighting.
