Sloatsburg Under Construction

Posted on 18 November 2011 by Editor

Most days somewhere in Sloatsburg is the ever present beep beep backup sound of a construction truck. Heavy equipment prowls the narrow streets of the village, whether at the corner of Washington Avenue and Rt. 17, along Seven Lakes Drive or on the hilly streets of Pine Grove Lakes.

Following is an update of recent on-going construction around central Sloatsburg:

— Congestion at the Washington Avenue railroad tracks is due to the MTA, along with Orange and Rockland, finishing repairs to the Metro-North Port Jervis Line from major Hurricane Irene damage. Trucks and equipment have been working all along the tracks, building up embankments as crews try to meet the official November 28 deadline to re-open the entire Port Jervis line.

— Waldron Terrace Bridge, which crosses Stony Brook at Seven Lakes Drive, is open to traffic but still under repair, with no firm date for the permanent replacement. The original bridge was first built by the county in 1910 and collapsed in the flood waters of Hurricane Irene. The bridge had repeatedly been cited as deficient and dangerous by inspectors in recent years, lacking sufficient embankment protection and providing minimal tolerable limits. It’s time had come.

— O&R crews continue work on Council Crest in the Pine Grove Lakes neighborhood, finishing upgrades to the new gas line. Crews installed the central line and are working on new street side t-links to upgrade residential hook ups.

— Additionally, New York State Department of Transportation subcontracted crews continue work on the new Seven Lakes Drive/Thruway overpass, a project scheduled for completion in 2012.
