There may be sewer blasting on a street near you — if you live in the vicinity of Sloatsburg Elementary School.
Calls from the Rockland County Sewer District 1 rang around Sloatsburg Friday evening. The alerts were part of an information effort by the District related to continuing sewer project work in the neighborhood of Grant Street and the area adjacent to the elementary school. The call from Sewer District Asst. Director Mike Saber’s office alerted residents about possible upcoming blasting for sewers. Additionally, the call mentioned a home inspection company called PEACE, which is working with the Sewer District on the Sloatsburg project and may be soliciting home inspections related to the upcoming work.
Any questions related to the Grant Street/Elementary School sewer project can be directed to Saber’s office at 845-365-6195.
“There are very few easy spots in this village,” Saber said at a spring Village Hall public meeting about the long sewer installation process throughout the village.
At that meeting Saber also addressed the Sewer District’s proposed schedule to complete the years-long Sloatsburg sewer project. The Sewer District anticipates completion of the installation of the Waldron Terrace bridge project in October, then Waldron Terrace sewer work will begin. Due to the unique geography of Waldron Terrace, which is a very narrow street that runs adjacent to the Ramapo River, the District expects sewer construction to last a minimum of six months.
Meanwhile, the District will begin work on the remaining areas around Sloatsburg Elementary School. Those areas involve Washington Avenue, 1st and 2nd Streets and Fairchild Street.
After the Grant Street and Waldron projects are completed, the next Sloatsburg area targeted is Pine Grove Lakes and then the remaining outlying areas, which include the Ballard and Academy neighborhood, Liberty Rock, Upper 17, and Sebastian Court.
