With Montana Construction trucks rumbling through Pine Grove Lakes and Carbro Construction banging away in the Waldron Terrace neighborhood of Sloatsburg, sewers are top of mind with many residents these days. The cost of hooking up to the new Sloatsburg sewers varies, but can certainly make a dent in the household budget.
The Village of Sloatsburg might have the assistance residents need when it comes to hooking up homes to the new Rockland County sewer system. The Sloatsburg Community Development Committee, led by chair Adrienne Fuchs, has a large block grant for income-eligible residents that is available to help offset sewer hookup costs. The funds are part of the County of Rockland Office of Community Development and, if residents qualify, might go a long way to help defray the expenses involved in connecting to the municipal sewer lines.
The Sloatsburg Public Library will hold a special grant assistance program Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m. to go through the entire process — it will explain who qualifies, how to qualify and what the grant money covers, to name a few topics. To register for the program online, just click to the library website.
The Sloatsburg Library program will dig in to some of the following information:
•grant money available to income eligible Sloatsburg residents to offset sewer hookup costs
•steps to qualify for a grant before incurring any sewer hookup costs
•questions related to the application process that includes substantiating income
•home inspection requirement & how that works (Sloatsburg Building Inspector will not do inspections)
Visit the library’s website calendar for easy online registration for the sewer grant assistance program. For additional information on Community Development Block Grants for Sloatsburg residents, call the Sloatsburg Village Hall offices at 845/753-2727.
