Sloatsburger Rose Nattini was has lived in the village her whole life. In fact, Nattini was born the same year Sloatsburg was founded as a village. But Nattini is well traveled and known far and wide. A former president of the Sloatsburg Seniors, she was celebrated recently in the spacious common room of the Senior Center mark her 90th birthday, surrounded by friends and family.
Mayor Carl Wright read one of his patented chronological citations that colorfully highlighted Rosinna Nattini’s life and times. Mayor Wright recalled instances and occasions from youth where she ice skated locally through her 34 years working in the office at Suffern High School. The Mayor also honored Nattini’s care of her late sister Mary, who Rose was very close to and cared for for many years.
Nattini will be soon celebrated again when Suffern High School honors her in October as Alumni of the Year.
Surrounded by her grand nieces and their children, Nattini was all smiles as her great grand nieces took turns describing their favorite aunt.
“When Aunt Rose comes over I feel joy,” said young great niece Fallon. “And not just because of the donuts she brings.”
Rose commented that her family treated her like a queen – and the feeling was mutual in the Nattini commented that her family treated her like a queen.
The Senior Center in Sloatsburg regularly holds meetings and hosts trips for Sloatsburgers 55+ who join … the cost is a mere $10 per year.
Nattini recalled when she joined the Senior Center some years ago, saying, I looked out at all the faces and couldn’t believe I was a senior. Now she’s one of Sloatsburg’s leading elders.
