The recent breezy weather will blow through and the sun is scheduled to shine Monday morning, just in time for the annual Sloatsburg Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. The parade winds its way through the central village along Rt. 17.
Led by the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Suffern High School Marching Band, the parade will make its way from Memorial Park at Village Hall through the village and around Eagle Valley Road to the Sloatsburg Cemetery.
Also dressed in their parade colors will be contingents of flag waving local Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts.
Look for residents to line the road and walk the parade route amid plenty of sunshine, waving to friends and taking pictures as the Suffern Marching Band makes music.
The parade will make its way to the Sloatsburg Cemetery for the final laying of the wreath ceremony at the war memorial, in memory of the men and woman who died while serving in the military.
The parade will then move to the Community Fields for refreshments, courtesy of the Village of Sloatsburg.
Rocklanders are also invited by Suffern Mayor Dagan Lacorte to join village residents for Suffern’s traditional Memorial Day Parade Monday.
The Suffern parade route begins at the corner of Orange and Lafayette avenues at 11 a.m. and continues to Soldier’s Monument at the intersection of Lafayette and Washington avenues. Mayor Lacorte, local officials and veterans leaders will hold a ceremony at 11:30 a.m.
“Memorial Day is a solemn moment to reflect on those who gave the final measure of devotion,” said Mayor Lacorte. “I know how much it means to those who have served when the community comes out strong on Memorial Day, I urge all my neighbors to join us for the parade.
