Saturday there’s only a slight chance of rain, maybe twenty percent, so get outside and enjoy. Remember this time last year? Trees with leaves still turning colors were bent and broken from a late October snow storm that forced the cancellation of the annual Halloween Parade. Come Tuesday, Sloatsburg may once again experience foul weather from Tropical Storm Sandy. So get out for some fun with friends and family and a late afternoon stroll though Sloatsburg.
In years past, Sloatsburg residents have turned out in mass for the costume contest and parade through the center of the village, which makes its way north to Seven Lakes Drive, veers off on Allen Lane and finishes at Sloatsburg Elementary School, where winners are announced and prizes awarded.
The parade begins at approximately 5 p.m. at the Community Fields parking lot entrance at the corner of Rt. 17 and Eagle Valley Road. Costume contestants should arrive earlier as costume judging will begin at 4 p.m.
The village donations and funds from last year’s cancelled event will be applied to this year’s Halloween programs, which include village-sponsored poster painting, pumpkin decorating and costume contests.
The pumpkin decorating contest takes place at the elementary school earlier on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and includes toddlers through children in the 2nd grade.
