Sloatsburg Community Gets Together to Cleanup the Village

Posted on 09 April 2018 by Editor

Volunteers from around Sloatsburg pitched in late April back in 2016, one of the first Keep Rockland Beautiful Sloatsburg Cleanups. Sloatsburg resident Carin Shapiro organized a successful local tie-in with the county effort that focused on the Sloatsburg Community Fields. This year’s effort takes place Sunday, April 29, starting at noon at the Municipal Building.

Many around the Village are ready to shake off the long winter cold days for some sunshine and springtime. By the end of April, the weather will have transitioned to warmer days. Just in time for the Keep Rockland Beautiful Sloatsburg Cleanup

Part of the Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup effort, Keep Rockland Beautiful has been building a spring clean program throughout the county one community at a time. Now with some 20 local municipalities and events planned throughout April and May, the KRB Great American Cleanup is connecting communities and organizations.

The Village of Sloatsburg will get the spic-n-span attention on Sunday, April 29, when the KRB Sloatsburg team sets out to clean parts of the Village, beginning at the Municipal Building parking lot at 12 noon. From local scout troops, Suffern Central student groups, the Sloatsburg Chamber and Village Hall itself, Sloatsburg should see a large turn out to clean the Route 17 roadside through the Village, the Community Fields, sections of Seven Lakes Drive, and other visible areas.

Students can earn community service hours during the cleanup. Refreshments and supplies will be provided by the KRB Sloatsburg team.

The Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce will join in to celebrate the Sunday, April 29, Cleanup with an all-day Block Party under the big white tent at Valley Rock Inn. The Block Party begins at 11 a.m. and runs through to 6 p.m. and will feature local vendors, a Chamber welcome station, a petting zoo, and a Chili Contest that is heating up into a proper food contest.

For $5 the public can taste test the Chili Contest contestants’ recipes and cast a vote on the day’s best chili. The Chili Contest is open for entry to the public. So anyone who believes they might have the right recipe to win can enter. Just contact Susie at smmcdonagh@gmail.com.

Proceeds from the contest will be split between the contest winner and the Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce.
