New County Executive Ed Day has changed Rockland County — well, at least he’s changed the rocklandgov.com site.
LoHud writer Ned Rauch wrote recently about Rockland’s governmental website showcasing a photo of verdant hills in Orange County along with Putnam County marshes. A photo of Bear Mountain Bridge acted as a longtime backdrop for the site, “with the photographer’s lens aimed upriver, away from Rockland.”
Only problem — nothing in the photo was actually in Rockland County. But that’s all changed now. The background of the county website now features a photo of Suffern’s Lafayette Avenue, looking north past the Lafayette Theatre. According to Rauch, county officials said that the previous photo was a holdover from the Vanderhoef administration.
Since Rauch first reported on the rocklandgov.com site in late January, the Day administration has acted swiftly to update the site and have it reflect Rockland.
County Communications Director Scott Salotto said that the new administration is redesigning the website, with additional emphasis on social media communications and packaging county information for better viewing. The official Rockland County Government Facebook page has become obviously more active in the last month.
Day’s campaign for county executive involved a very aggressive social media effort that not only helped broadcast his views on issues facing the county but probably won him a few precious votes. Day continues to reach out to residents through his popular Facebook page and Twitter account @ElectEdDay.
So, kudos to Suffern for capturing a much-coveted piece of Rockland real estate.
