Roadside Snow Banks Still Hazardous

Large snow banks at roadside intersections can be a hazard.

Large snow roadside banks and uncleared sidewalks can be a hazard. Use caution.

There are many winter weather road hazards — black ice, slippery roads, chunky potholes. This winter add dangerous roadside snow banks piled higher than usual from the recent heavy snow.

roasidesnowpack3Even though the next few days promise warmer weather and possible rain, the past weeks of heavy plowing has created snow packs at intersections that can obstruct drivers from seeing oncoming cars. Use caution.

Wednesday night, February 19, saw an accident at the intersection of 1 Liberty Rock Road and Rt. 17 at the Sloatsbug Public Library. With views obstructed from both directions, a car pulling onto Rt. 17 was hit causing a minor fender bender. There were no injuries.

Additionally, some village sidewalks have yet to be cleaned by the Department of Public Works, especially north of village center, causing pedestrians walk along the edge of Rt. 17. Again, use caution.

The warming weather and a renewed effort by the DPW should help clear village intersections and sidewalks.
