Witches and zombies and princesses and action heroes — ready your costumes for the annual Halloween walk through Sloatsburg.
The Village of Sloatsburg Halloween Parade takes place Saturday, October 26. The action hits the road at 5 p.m., starting at the entrance to the Community Fields parking lot at Rt. 17 and Eagle Valley Road — just in time for the seasonal bite of cold weather.
The parade is a great Sloatsburg community gathering, where residents turn out for the best costume contests and best float. The more costumes, the more colorful the parade. And the prize money for categories has been creeping up: 1st place for best float, group costume and best adult costume carries a $200 award.
Participant and costume registration begins at 4 p.m. Bring gloves to keep those mitts warm when the evening chill hits.
The parade will include locally-constructed floats and costumes and an appearance by the Suffern Marching Band. So, set your watch for Saturday late afternoon and make your way to the village center. If you like to watch parades, the junction of Sterlington Station at Seven Lakes Drive is a good place to watch as the parade makes its way to the elementary school.
Rt. 17 will be shut to all thru traffic at approximately 5 p.m. for 45 minutes while the parade passes through the village.
