The Pine Grove Lakes neighborhood of Sloatsburg will enjoy calm this week, before the storm of street paving.
Montana Construction is scheduled to complete the Pine Grove phase of Sloatsburg’s sewer project by prepping and asphalt paving the entire neighborhood — Montana will purportedly complete the job before Memorial Day. The construction company’s bond for the Pine Grove part of the sewer project expires on June 1, so the expedited paving process will be brisk.
Pine Grove residents should be prepared for road upheaval, beginning on Monday, May 11.
The Village of Sloatsburg is also currently in the bidding process to completely upgrade the outdated Pine Grove storm drain system. Recent sewer construction exposed various sections, showing damaged drain pipes and pipes that were damaged due to age.
The storm drain project grew out of the village’s examination of faulty drainage on Hazelwood and Hillside Roads.
In July of 2014, a contingent of homeowners from Hazelwood Road addressed the board about the need to add working storm drains along the end Hazelwood. Residents described the dangerous seasonal sheeting effect that took place during winter, especially at the intersection of Dogwood.
Residents living at the end of Hillside Road also spoke at that time, describing erosion taking place from adjacent utility company property that abuts Hillside.
Village Engineer Richard Eichenlaub from R.L. Engineering out of Park Ridge, N.J. investigated both areas and presented the board with options on how to address the drainage issues. The Village Board determined that a full Pine Grove drainage project would be the most cost-effective measure and voted to bonded approximately $300,000 for the project.
