Even with temperatures dipping into the low 20s during the day, the Sloatsburg Senior Center had a full house Wednesday afternoon, January 4, for their first meeting of the New Year. The expansive main meeting room was crowded with nearly 50 members. At the back of the room near the kitchen entrance was a table laden with colorful cakes to celebrate January birthdays while off to the side was the old-style raffle bin run by regular Betty Lahm. Cost to play — $1.
Senior Center President Rose Nattini handled the gavel and crowd at the front table alongside Secretary Jayne Barber and Sub-Treasurer Ann Kelly, filling in for regular Treasurer Ralph Pagan, who was vacationing in Florida. The main order of business for the day was a review of the Center’s 2012 schedule, which was planned by members during the last few meetings this past December.
The next event up for the group will be a January 18 luncheon and show by the Wild Irish Rovers Band at the Liberty Rock Road location. The event has no cost for members. In February there will be a pizza and bingo party at the center.
Located on Liberty Rock Road, the Sloatsburg Senior Center is open to Sloatsburg residents 55 and over. The organization holds meetings every Wednesday at 1 p.m. and keeps an active schedule. Funded in part by member dues, the group also receives support from the Village of Sloatsburg.
