Sometimes you just have to go big and make your dream a reality. Locals Cynthia Gray and Michael Narciso have done just that with Mia’s Kitchen, a brightly colored new restaurant along Lafayette Avenue in the center village of Suffern, NY that offers affordable food made fresh daily.
The small family-owned restaurant serves up a decidedly healthy, home-cooked fare prepared by Narcisco. Menu items include wraps, panini, cold salads, soups, as well as a selection of special daily deserts. Many dishes come gluten and/or dairy free or vegetarian but the menu offers something interesting for everyone, from beef chili and grilled salmon to fresh veggies and mac and cheese. Chef Narcisco keeps the menu fresh and inviting by trying to change things up a little every day, according to partner Gray.
Mia’s Kitchen is exactly the stylish walk-in lunch and dinner spot that should help attract foot traffic along Suffern’s main street. It also passed the Calabria grandmother test, according to Chef Narciso, who said that a recent restaurant visitor from that region of Italy gave the food a smile and thumbs up.
Gray and Narciso have long-standing roots in the local community — Gray actually lives in one of the oldest houses in Suffern and shares some of that history on the walls of restaurant. Mia’s Kitchen reflects their shared dream to both introduce healthy foods and to invest back in the community that has given them much.
Some may also recognize Gray from her day job as a personal trainer at Rockland Peak Performance in Sloatsburg.
Gray said that the “feedback has been off the charts” for Mia’s since it first opened June 1 to coincide with the popular Suffern Street Fair.
Mia’s “yummy, health food” has been a hit with Suffern’s lunch crowd, which consists of municipal and salon workers and clients, along with any number of village shoppers or multitude of small business owners in search of an affordable, healthy lunchtime alternative. With weekday hours from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m., Mia’s is also a great dinner grab & go and precisely the kind of business Suffern’s downtown development advocates say is needed to attract street foot traffic to Lafayette.
Mia’s may also have the best window seat on Suffern’s main street right now as the restaurant would just as easily be fit downtown Tarrytown or Nyack.
Many things in life are all about timing and Mia’s Kitchen, with Gray’s and Narciso’s passion and enthusiasm, appears to have appropriately arrived at just the right moment to help feed those in Suffern hungry for something new.
Mia’s Kitchen is located at 83 Lafayette Avenue in Suffern, NY and is open from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m. For more information, call the restaurant at 845-547-2427.
