Local Girl Scouts promoted a spring cleaning of Sloatsburg at a recent Village Board meeting.
Troop 40494 presented its Keep Sloatsburg Shining Project which mapped hotspots around the village where garbage and other roadside trash collects. The bus stop at the Sloatsburg Library received a frown face from the Troop as did an area along Seven Lakes Drive and the entranceway to the Community Fields.
The Girls Scouts also advocated for the Village to purchase doggie waste stations to assist and benefit the many dog owners throughout the village. The stations would provide baggies and waste doors. Several Pine Grove residents in attendance at the meeting vouched for the doggie stations — the Grove has several of the stations near its lower lake and community green that effectively promote dog walkers to neatly dispose of their waste.
Girl Scout Troop 40494 will put advocacy into action by participating in the upcoming Keep Rockland Beautiful Sloatsburg Cleanup on Sunday, April 28. The Sloatsburg Cleanup is open to anyone who wants to participate and is in conjunction with the annual series of KRB municipal clean up efforts around the county.
Things kick off at the Sloatsburg Municipal Lot at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 28. The Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce will also hold its annual Spring Block Party that Sunday, at Village Walk and the Commuter Lot. Anyone who participate in the Sloatsburg Cleanup can get a ticket for a free hotdog with all the fixings — at the Block Party.
Near the end of the board meeting, after the Girl Scouts had filed out, Trustee Dan O’Leary circled back to their presentation, bringing up to the board the idea of the village getting behind the doggie waste stations. All the board members present agreed that the waste stations were an economical solution to help dog owners keep Sloatsburg beautiful.
A vote was taken and the purchase of three waste stations approved.
