The Friday night Bridge Street fire in Suffern saw a house go up in flames while many area fire departments responded in mutual aid. The Suffern Police Department responded within a minute of the emergency 911 call that came in around 9:40 p.m. — but when police officers arrived, the house was already burning, with heavy flames coming from the top floor.
All residents, complete with pets, had evacuated the structure when Suffern police arrived. Fire departments responding in mutual aid included Tallman, Mahwah, Hillburn, Monsey, and Hillcrest.
The Suffern Police reported that the cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department BCI Unit.
There was also a reported gas leak at the location which contributed to feeding the fire.
Update Suffern, 7 Bridge Street. 19-Command requesting O&R Gas to expedite as a gas line has ruptured and is feeding the fire.

The Suffern Volunteer Hose Co. #1 also responded to a brush fire over the weekend in a wooded area around Maplewood Boulevard and Parkside Drive — those gusty winds threatened to fan the brush fire flames.
