The local farmers’ markets send Saturday salutations on clear blue blue days and a bit rainy too. The season of chill mornings and warming days are upon us. WeekendRoundupfarmersmarketsLook for both the Suffern and Tuxedo Farmers’ Markets to be open Saturdays until midday this late summer and into the fall, with colorful vendor tables laden with foods and hand crafted goods — soaps, syrups, sauces. There are baked goods, plus farm foods galore, all waiting for you to stroll through and make a selection of something eye catching. The Suffern Farmers’ Market is open through 1 p.m. and is located in the Commuter Lot at the corner of Lafayette and Rt. 59. Tuxedo Farmers’ Market is located at the Tuxedo Train Station on Rt. 17 clean in the center of town and goes until 2 p.m.

The Suffern Market often features live music set up near the Suffern Railroad Museum, such as the mandolin playing of Steve Kelman. The market celebrates crafty homemade goods such as soaps, salves, syrups and snacks, candles — and more. Tuxedo has a fantastic pickle table, with spicy garlic and horseradish and a few in between. Tuxedo also offers a spacious fresh vegetable table with leafy kale, escarole, lettuce of all sorts, carrots — well, just stroll through to experience the abundance. Both markets offer fresh, tasty items such as breads, sausages and meats, pizzas and sauces, pies, and other assorted baked goods.

There’s often a local face such as Dave Dowling serenading at the Tuxedo Train Station. If you’re out and about on a Saturday afternoon, think about your local farmers market because they bring it all for you.
