This Sunday, December 7, marks that time of year when Suffern, Sloatsburg and Hillburn welcome in the holiday season.
All three villages will host tree lighting ceremonies, along with other activities on Sunday, December 7, including caroling and visits with Santa.
The Sloatsburg Library will help get you in the gifting spirit Saturday when the Friends of the Sloatsburg Library hosts its Holiday Vendor & Craft Fair. With some 30 vendors scheduled to set up shop Saturday, the Vendor & Craft has become an annual opportunity for early holiday shoppers to get a peek at handcrafted goods, including Alpaca wool knitted items, jewelry, soaps, salves and special herbs, as well as holiday decorations, foods gifts.
The Friends of the Sloatsburg Library is a volunteer community group that works to support the library year round through book sales, the holiday fair and volunteer work, with donations providing support to the library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program as well as adult programming.
Sunday’s Sloatsburg activities begin with the traditional Breakfast with Santa at the Sloatsburg Elementary School. The breakfast is a kid-centric morning at the elementary school where parents, friends and family can meet and mingle with Santa.
Starting at 4 p.m., Sloatsburg residents are invited to join in village song during the annual Sloatsburg Caroling and Tree Lighting Program that has been a village mainstay in one form or another for some 40 years, according to Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright. Carolers will meet at St. Joan of Arc Church and proceed through the village to the Sloatsburg Library and United Methodist Church.
Carolers end up at the Municipal Building, where the group will be joined by the Suffern High School Select Choir for the Tree Lighting ceremony and afterwards an assortment of refreshments inside the Fire Hall. Even if you are unable to participate in caroling through the village, a stop by Village Hall to hear the Select Choir is worth the effort.
Immediately after Sloatsburg’s festivities, the Suffern Select Choir will depart to the Village of Hillburn to participate in the village’s 37th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration at Veterans Memorial Park at 6 p.m.
The Village of Suffern has re-scheduled its annual Christmas Parade for Sunday, December 7, beginning at 5 p.m. The parade will wind its way down Lafayette Avneu to the Gazebo in Avon Park for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Children of all ages will also have the opportunity to visit with Santa at the Suffern Community Center immediately after the Tree Lighting.
The Salvation Army choir will entertain with caroling and song.
