Be on the lookout for the Christmas Train as it winds its way through Sloatsburg Saturday, December 10, delivering gifts to kids throughout the village. For nearly 60 years now, the Sloatsburg American Legion Post 1643 has partnered with other veteran groups, noteably, the Society of the 40 Men and 8 Horses, and recently with the Sloatsburg Fire Department, to provide holiday cheer with this annual community outreach event.
The gift giving begins around 9 a.m. and lasts until late afternoon. Legion members and volunteers will ride around in a vintage vehicle dressed up as an old-time locomotive, while Santa delivers toys, oranges and a bit of Christmas joy to children 10 and under. The Christmas train will keep a tight schedule, moving through the neighborhoods along Washington Avenue and Seven Lakes Drive, as well as the neighborhood off Route 17 known locally as The Flats. Other stops include Sloatsburg Elemntary School and Sloatsburg Station Plaza. The Christmas train eventually visits every neighborhood in the village.
Coordinated by Legion and Sloatsburg Fire Deparment volunteers, members of the 40 & 8, as well as other community volunteers, the event receives additional support from ShopRite and through Sloatsburg resident donations.
Be on the lookout for the American Legion Christmas Train as it makes its way through the village in one of Sloatsburg’s unique holiday traditions.
