The Friends of Harmony Hall were busy recently decorating for this coming Sunday’s special Victorian Holiday — the event is free and open to the public.
While members Peter Bush and Kathy Pascale took on the interior, Kathy Goldman worked seasonal magic on the Jacob Sloat Greek Revival mansion porch.
The Victorian Holiday takes place this Sunday, December 4, from 1 through 5 p.m., and is free and open to the public. The Dutch Christmas event will include music, a special holiday shoppe, food, children’s crafts, and raffles.
As part of the holiday open house, the Friends of Harmony Hall also funded the renovation of the house’s downstairs bathroom, making it handicap and wheelchair accessible. Friends President Barbara Berntsen supervised the interior renovation.
Victorian Holiday is a Free Family Celebration and is co-sponsored by the Town of Ramapo.
Harmony Hall was built by Jacob Sloat in 1848, with members of the Sloat family living in the avant-guard Greek Revival house on the hill until 1908, when it passed out of the family. The Friends of Harmony Hall efforts seeks to restore the house to as it was when the Sloat family lived in it from 1848-1908, and establish the property as an historical, environmental and education center for the Ramapo Highlands region.
The Friends of Harmony Hall also host a number of popular events throughout the year, including the annual fall Highlands Bluegrass Festival.
