Ready. Set. Read.
The Sloatsburg Library’s popular Summer Reading program kicks off next Monday, June 29, with a special collection of twisted tales by ScienceTellers. The Summer Reading effort signs kids up to a fun book-reading regimen over the the course of the summer that includes prizes and a whole host of related activities and programs.
ScienceTellers is a collection of educator entertainers who combine science and storytelling in shows that are part experiments and energized performance. This year’s show will incorporate the Summer Reading theme of Every Hero Has A Story, which emphasizes the super powers the library experience can unlock in kids.
The Sloatsburg joins some 1,100 other local libraries throughout New York State that take part in the summer reading initiative, which is funded in part through the Federal Library Services and Technology Act. The program especially focuses on kids K through 5th grade.
The Summer Reading Kick Off Party is a festive effort by the Sloatsburg Library that brings parents and kids to the library to sign up for the program and remind patrons of all the programs and activities the library will host throughout the summer.
Sloatsburg Library Manager Annmarie McAnany said Summer Reading is a vital part of the library’s community programming.
“We get so many kids and parents coming in during the summer, especially for Summer Reading sign up,” McAnany said. “The prizes catch the kids’ eyes and the exciting party event create an impression. There are a lot of kids who don’t come in except in the summer and they end up having a love of reading because the summer reading program encouraged them,” she said.
