The third annual Dog Days of Summer Great Lawn sale at Harmony Hall in Sloatsburg, NY, where a whole collective of some 25 plus community vendors gathers until after 5 p.m.
The popular Dog Days sale is a fundraiser for Harmony Hall and an opportunity for local vendors and residents to gather old and new belongings, pitch a table out on the sunny Great Lawn at the Jacob Sloat House and to sale them to interested buyers. You’ll be able to find everything from handmade clothes and crafts, lawn accessories to historical items and foods.
The event was the conceived by Sloatsburgers Alison Harvey and Village Historian Harrison Bush as a fundraiser to help in the restoration of Harmony Hall — plus it gives the surrounding community an opportunity to meet and greet and sale unwanted items to those that want them.
Harvey has worked to gather vendors and friends and neighbors for the all-day event.
Originally built as the home of Jacob Sloat in 1848, the mansion was known as Harmony Hall and today is on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. Harmony Hall now displays a newly constructed roof with Yankee gutters, and includes structural improvements, including new support beams. The siding has been removed and windows and the front porch will be restored in the next phase.
The Friends of Harmony Hall is a local non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Town of Ramapo and are dedicated to the preservation of Harmony Hall. The groups support arts, cultural and historical programs that capitalize upon the benefits of the historic preservation effort, and promotes the rich and varied history of New York’s magnificent Ramapo River Pass and Highlands.
In September, Harmony Hall will host the 6th annual Highlands Bluegrass Festival, which draws a crowd from across the Hudson Valley.
