There’s a dizzying assortment of activities going on this weekend, from the Suffern and Tuxedo Farmers’ Markets to pulling up a lone lawn chair to your own favorite spot and enjoying the day. But Saturday seriously consider the Dog Days of Summer Great Lawn sale at Harmony Hall in Sloatsburg, NY, where a whole collective of some 25 plus community vendors gathers until after 5 p.m.
The popular Dog Days sale is a fundraiser for Harmony Hall and an opportunity for local vendors and residents to gather their belongings and pitch a table to sale everything from handmade clothes and crafts to historical items and foods.
The event was the brainchild of Sloatsburgers Alison Harvey and Village Historian Harrison Bush, friends who are active in helping with the restoration of Harmony Hall. Bush also serves as Sloatsburg Village Historian.
The all-day yard sale will have goods set out on Harmony Hall’s Great Lawn, located at the Jacob Sloat House.
Farmers’ Markets
Both the Suffern and Tuxedo Farmers’ Markets are active Saturday. Visit Tuxedo at the Tuxedo Train Station, where there will be an immense table laden with fresh vegetables ripe and ready for the taking. Suffern’s market takes place in the village Commuter Parking lot at the corner of Lafayette and Rt. 59.
Further up in Tuxedo the New York Renaissance Faire will be in full fun mode at the Sterling Forest shire just off of Rt. 17A. There’ll be mead and jugglers, jesters and minstrels. And mead. Tickets are around $25 but there are plenty of discounts available if one looks around.
Pitch in for the Sloatsburg Fire Department
Be prepared to slow down in the center of Sloatsburg Saturday and Sunday as the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department holds it Annual Fund Drive. Members of the SFD will be out all day, cans in hand to collect coins and contributions from passersby to help with the department’s budget.
In the past, the collections have gone towards the departments Red Alert call system. Mostly, the funds help the department fund various events and fees for members.
It only takes a few quarters to pass go, so help out and pitch in.
