Characters Supports Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund

Tuesday offers locals with an appetite the opportunity to feed the Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund.

Characters Restaurant and Bar will donate 15% of the cost of all dine in or take out meals after 4 p.m. on May 6 to the Scholarship Fund, which fundraises on behalf of various scholarships for Sloatsburg students.

Jenny Kirby, owner of Characters, along with her sister Dionne and brother in-law Tommy Acton, said the restaurant supports several vital local initiatives, including the Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund and Sloatsburg UMC Food Pantry.

“We want to be part of the community and meet the people who are coming out to support these fundraisers,” said Kirby.

Lend a hand by having dinner at Characters Tuesday evening. Every bite counts.

The Sloatsburg Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization comprised of a committee of residents to take over student scholarships that were at one time managed by the Village of Sloatsburg. The Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to local, Sloatsburg students that range from 5th graders through high school.

Many of the Sloatsburg scholarships are awarded the annual Evening of Excellence awards dinner and ceremony takes place at the William L. Ransom auditorium at Suffern High School, usually in June.

As part of its fundraising effort this spring, the Scholarship Fund will hold its popular Village Wide garage Sale on Saturday, May 17. The garage involves residents who participate in the all-day yard and garage sale, with the registration fee of $15 per entry going to the Scholarship Fund.
