The Tuxedo Union Free School District awaits to hear the New York Board of Regents decision on the conversion charter process to create Tuxedo STEM Academy at George F. Baker High School.
Update: The NYS Board of Regents voted Tuesday, March 17, to return the application to the Tuxedo school district, leaving the Tuxedo Union Free School District and town with options explored during a March 12 Public Meeting.
Tuxedo students wore red and rallied around George F. Baker High School recently as the New York Board of Regents met in Albany to determine the Tuxedo STEM Academy Conversion Charter application, to no avail as the the Board of Regents committee denied the Tuxedo charter conversion. Mid March is nearly here already, with Spring Break only a few weeks away. But the drab of a long winter still clings on. Two enterprising Ramapo Central School District teachers have banded together create the upcoming Family Night initiative, which encourages families to enjoy an evening together. Hayward’s Deli chipped in for a bit of community camaraderie this past Saturday morning. The Suffern High School’s chapter of Youth for Hospice put a tip jar out at the local deli and marketplace on Rt. 17 in Sloatsburg — and four hours later had collected some $200 for Hospice of Rockland County. The Suffern track teams flexed a bit of early season muscle at the annual Suffern Indoor Invitational meet last week. The Mounties hosted schools from all over the Rockland County and the Hudson Valley at Rockland Community College on Friday, January 16, with the girls team taking first place while the boys finished third. Just a few years ago, Sloatsburg Elementary School had several bustling after school programs, including Homework Club and the Family Resource Center. Both programs were geared toward providing homework assistance to elementary school students but were lost in the 2013/14 school district budget cuts. Continue Reading

Suffern High School continued its athletic excellence as the girls volleyball team finally climbed the mountain in Glen Falls, NY over the weekend to claim a Class AA State Championship. Led by senior Samantha Uline, the Mounties played rival Penfield and this time captured the title Sunday, November 17. Continue Reading
