Sloatsburg residents have been participating in a DOT Complete Streets project that looks to transform Route 17 through the Village into a safer, more pedestrian-friendly roadway. The final Public Workshop is set for June, with roadway construction expected to take place in 2018.

The local community turned out as the annual Suffern Crafts & Drafts Street Fair drew people from near and far for a sunny Sunday afternoon of activities. The event was sponsored by the Suffern Chamber of Commerce.
The sky turned blue Sunday and temperatures climbed for the annual Suffern Street Fair. The Crafts & Drafts collection of craft booths, local restaurants and Beer Garden drew a curious crowd that drifted along Suffern’s Lafayette and Washington Avenues. Continue Reading

Sloatsburg is one of the anchor communities in the Ramapo Central School District. The community has had a local school since before the Village was incorporated in 1929, with the old Sloatsburg Union Free School established in 1870 in operation until 1943, when the Sloatsburg Elementary School opened in its present location. Mayor Carl Wright reported Thursday, March 31, that NYS DEC soil sampling of dirt and other sewer construction materials at Sloatsburg’s Community Fields found no contamination or indications of possible hazardous materials.
Sloatsburgers can breathe a sigh of relief as an incredibly worrying rumor has been struck down by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

A view from behind some of the dirt at the Sloatsburg Community Fields that was discovered to be deemed contaminated with various petroleum production by-products. The Town of Ramapo signed an $800,000 contract in 2012 to clean up the old roadway and debris but never did the work.This land may actually be part of unincorporated Ramapo.
