Well, summer has officially arrived. Ramapo Central Schools finished another school year last week with graduation ceremonies celebrated from elementary school to middle school to seniors in caps and gowns at Rockland Community College.

Harmony Hall in Sloatsburg will host a Summer Solstice Celebration on Saturday, June 20, from 2 p.m. through 5 p.m. that will include nature walks and arts & crafts for kids.

Decorated Sloatsburg WWII Veteran George Heller Passes Away

Longtime Sloatsburg resident George Heller went through Hell and back during his days fighting for the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) of the 101st Airborne Division during WWII.

Heller’s WWII adventure sounds like something out of Captain America — he participated in a few combat infantry air jumps but they all counted — one at Normandy before D-Day and one near Veghel for Operation Market Garden. And then, during the battle of the Bulge, Heller was hit by German counter-attack shrapnel and seriously wounded at Bastogne, France. Continue Reading

Sloatsburg Elementary School 5th Grade Fundraising Fun

Sloatsburg 5th graders are looking for dirty cars to clean.

The Sloatsburg Elementary School 5th grade class will set up a car wash at the school on Saturday, June 4, complete with cafe that will sell cookies and cupcakes. The fundraiser is a way for the class to raise money for class trips and other activities. Continue Reading

Tuxedo Will Hold Popular Memorial Day Community Picnic

The Tuxedo Park Library has invested a lot of time and effort in its annual fundraiser Memorial Day Community Picnic.

And the Tuxedo community has responded, helping to make the day’s festivities a popular hit – compete with talent show and picnic. Now, if those threatening Monday showers will co-operate. The popular St. Joan of Arc Church Carnival returns for the Memorial Day Weekend, beginning Thursday, May 26, and running through Sunday, May 29. With the Carnival, Sunday evening’s scheduled fireworks display and Monday’s annual Parade, the long Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be sunny and full of fun.

The Suffern High School Crew Team of 8 is rowing its way to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America's National Championships being held at Dillon State park in Zanesville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Suffern High School Crew Team of 8 (along with a fellow team of 4) is rowing its way to the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s National Championships being held at Dillon State Park in Zanesville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Suffern High School Crew Team are excited to be sending 2 boats to Nationals, the first time ever that Suffern Crew (also 2010-15 Rockland County Champs) will have two Varsity Boats competing at the highest level in the country. Continue Reading
