The “Christmas Train,” one of those unique Sloatsburg holiday traditions, will wind its way through the village this year on Saturday, December 7. For some 60 years now, the Sloatsburg American Legion Post No. 1643 has partnered with other veteran groups and organizations — most recently with the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department — to drive a little holiday cheer throughout the village. The colorful fall leaves are falling and Sterlington Station in Sloatsburg is celebrating.
Sterlington Station has put out the welcome to all comers today for a good old-fashioned October Fest and Pig Roast, Saturday, October 12, Sloatsburg style in the Station parking lot. A big ol’ pig will be cooked for the day’s activities. $30 for adults gets participants their fill of BBQ and drinks, along with other kitchen fare food. The price includes all the canned & draft beer you’d like to savor as well. $10 buys kids all they can eat, plus drinks and a desert.
The Sterlington Station party goes through 7 p.m.
It’s a beautiful day in the Ramapos, so get out and enjoy. Friends, sun, fresh pork, Sloatsburg. The works. Go on. Get. Out. And enjoy.

The old Waldron property across from the Sloatsburg Library was once the hot heart of the village. In the early 1900s, the Waldron’s (yes, the Waldron Terrace Waldron’s) big barn served as the village livery stable while the smithy occupied another, smaller building on the property. Bright red fire trucks and men dressed in sharp, clean uniforms parade today.
The volunteers of the Sloatsburg Fire Department will join with other Rockland County firefighters — volunteer all, mind you — and parade this afternoon, September 7, at 2 p.m. along the Main Streets in New City. The parade begins on Little Tor Road and moves north to Collyer Avenue, then moves north along South Main Street to New Hempstead Road, concluding at the Rockland County Courthouse. Continue Reading
