Sloatsburg’s Harmony Hall Celebrates Centennial of Women’s Suffrage with Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Council

Held just before countywide elections took place, Harmony Hall in Sloatsburg, NY, hosted an event that included two of Rockland County’s leading women politicians, who attended to talk shop and the history of women voting to the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Council. Rockland County Legislator Harriet Cornell and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee were on hand Saturday, November 4, at the Jacob Sloat House to honor those Girl Scouts who earned their Centennial of Women’s Suffrage in New York Girl Scout Patch. The Sloatsburg Chamber of Commerce Reboots to Provide Support to Businesses and Become a Vital Community Voice

Sloatsburg Voter & Issue Information for November 7 Ballot

Rockland County voters go to the polls on Tuesday, November 7, with a new Town of Ramapo Supervisor a sure thing. The only question for many is which direction to go and who to elect to the town’s top job. But there are other issues at stake outside of supervisor that will impact local residents, including Ramapo Supervisor of Highways and two Sloatsburg Fire Department ballot initiatives. Sloatsburg turned out for another successful Halloween Parade

The 32nd Annual Sloatsburg Halloween Parade got started down Route 17 from the Community Fields, led by the Ramapo Police Department.

The Village of Sloatsburg once again had an enthusiastic turn out for its 32nd annual Halloween Parade. The march and community walk down Route 17 took place this past Saturday, October 28, just before the Sunday rain set in.

Once again the Suffern High School Marching Band led the way. Here’s hoping all have a very satisfying Halloween. Continue Reading

The wine store in Sloatsburg has undergone a transformation

Welcome the new owners of Sloatsburg Wine, located in the village center shopping mall. Sisters Olga Lukashyk and Iryna Moskalyk have taken on the wine and spirit store and hope you help make the establishment a great success.

There’s more going on at Sloatsburg Wine than you might think. The store tucked next to Hayward’s Deli on the Route 17 byway through Sloatsburg, NY, is a familiar crossroads for locals.

Now Suffern resident Olga Lukashyk, along with family, including sister Iryna Moskalyk, have taken on the wine and liquor store. Iryna mentioned the interesting changes in Sloatsburg as a catalyst to talk Keith Reardon into selling the store. Many a Sloatsburger has chatted with Keith in the store or while he took a moment out front to watch the street scenes unfold. May his travels treat him well. Continue Reading

Should it stay or go? The Village wants to know your opinion on the Roller Skate Rink at the Community Fields

The Village of Sloatsburg’s skate park has fallen into disrepair due to its particular location at the Community Fields — the concrete surface has undergone repeated flooding and cycles of freezing and thawing, leaving the rink unrepairable.

Note: This article has been updated. The Sloatsburg Roller Skate Park is a colorful illustration of Mother Nature’s persistent power to undermine and undo things made by human hands. The Skate Rink at the Community Fields was built in the 1980s during the resurgence of public skating and roller blading. It now exists in a state of limbo — currently both unusable and unrepairable. Sloatsburg Village Board meets heading into the fall, with a list of project updates and local activities

The NYSDOT Region 8 team updates the Village Board before Tuesday’s regular meeting as the roadway plan through Sloatsburg is finalized, with the expectation of a November presentation.

The Village of Sloatsburg has been busy a number of major improvement and maintenance projects that taken together will have lasting impacts on local quality of life.

2017 has been a year of both planning and execution. Projects underway include major sewer and road improvement plans, delivery of two new fire trucks and the construction of a substation to house them in, community pool upgrades and the recently completed resurfacing of tennis courts at the Community Fields.
