Village Gets New Deputy Mayor

The fun and cookies offered a brief relief from the business at hand at last week’s special Village Board Reorganization meeting, which saw new Trustees Thomas Buckley, Jr. and Dan O’Leary sworn in.

Hillbilly Art Down By The Highway

One downside to Sloatsburg is Rt. 17 snaking through the central village, creating traffic backups and reducing the impulse to walk around. But there is an upside to having a river of cars flow by. Santa Makes An Early Visit To Harmony Hall

The sudden shift to warmer weather and holiday spirits brought people out over the weekend to Sloatsburg’s Sunday celebrations, that included village caroling, tree lighting and a round of visits by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Visitors also gathered at Harmony Hall, the 1848 mansion which was dressed up in finery for its annual Victorian Holiday December 2.

Veterans And Voters Celebrated At Village Hall

The Sloatsburg Village Board meeting last Tuesday evening was nearly standing room only. Officials came from across the county to attend the village’s special veterans remembrance ceremony that included recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 1643.

“We have to make sure that our veterans coming back from Afghanistan, that the last place we send them is to the unemployment line,” said NY State Sen. David Carlucci, who’s working to create state legislation to help veterans and seniors.

A Trustee Farewell

Kick Off The Holidays

The annual game of lawn football is one of those that plays out in neighborhoods and parks in towns all over the country. A collection of Sloatsburg sons got together Thursday morning for their own friendly but spirited game of football played on the adjoining Lawns of Harmony Hall and the Sloatsburg Public Library. Sloatsburg Ambulance Corps Rides Into The Night For Relief

Kyle Lynch watched the call go out for help from people hit by Hurricane Sandy and then did what he does best — respond. Lynch helped organize and rally local community support for a Hurricane Sandy relief effort based out of the SAC building on Washington Avenue. A lieutenant with the Sloatsburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Lynch said he was moved by the devastation witnessed in parts of New York and just wanted to help out. This past Saturday, the SAC building bustled as final preparations were made to gather up donations and drive them to Breezy Point in Rockaway, Queens, one of the hardest hit NY coastal communities.
