Summer Showdown Comedy Competition

The Village Has Heard The Cry Of Local Road Woes

The clink and clank of shovels could be heard early morning in parts of Sloatsburg Tuesday as the Department of Public Works continued its spring effort to patch worn roads.

Sloatsburg Mayor Carl Wright said at Tuesday’s board meeting that the village was “taking a beating” from residents on local road conditions and patchy sewer information due to sporadic Rockland Sewer District 1 public communication about scheduled work.

Suffern New Street Fair All Day Sunday

Cap off the nice weekend weather with a stroll down Lafayette Avenue in Suffern Sunday, June 2, during the second in a series of Street Fairs.

“We’re calling it the New Suffern Street Fair because we were getting feedback that the fair was getting a bit stale,” explained Greater Suffern Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Daycock. “We’re working hard to freshen things up a bit in an effort to attract visitors to the area and to its business community. There is so much history in western Rockland, and so many great places for people to eat and to shop,” Daycock said. Continue Reading

Classic Car Show Honors Memory Of Amy Clifford

Paul Paulson remembers Amy Clifford with a happy face, having fun and enjoying last June’s Classic Car Show at Sloatsburg Community Field that was put on for her benefit.

“At the car show she was as happy as a kid should be, with a smile on her face and BBQ sauce all over,” said Paulson, Quartermaster for the Sloatsburg Volunteer Fire Department, which staged the fundraiser along with East Coast Rod & Custom. Continue Reading

Retired Colonel in the US Army and West Point graduate Laureen (Lorrie) Barone had not expected to speak, but was overcome with the public outpouring of affection for her former second grade teacher,  Miss Anna Kovaly.
