Classes were underway for little more than an hour Friday morning at George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo, NY when students and staff heard an ominous creaking sound coming from the ceiling.
Everyone rushed out of the second floor room and shortly afterwards the ceiling in room 220 buckled and partially collapsed, showering the room with insulation. There were no injuries due to the quick thinking of all involved. Continue Reading

Take in the sights and sounds of a wee bit of spring Saturday. Temperatures are expected to jump and the sun should shine. And that means there is no excuse not to get out to the Tuxedo Farmers’ Winter Market.
The 11th Annual Ramapo Winter Carnival takes place Saturday, March 8, from 11am to 4pm at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community Center in Torne Valley, and features inflatable rides for kids, DJ, games, crafts, and the second annual Rockland Boulders Winter Blast. And it’s free.

The ragged Rockland County roads are in the middle of some much needed TLC as the call to fix potholes has echoed from village to town.

NY Sen. David Carlucci has encouraged Rockland residents to report potholes to the NY Department of Transportation at 1.800.Pothole.
One common complaint heard by many Sloatsburgers is the condition of local roads. The winter weather and recent sewer work has created perfect conditions for asphalt upheaval. Rt. 17 in front of the Sloatsburg Library is especially treacherous, with potholes near large enough to sink a tire. Continue Reading

CONGERS – Volunteer firefighters said that the efforts of a Congers resident to shovel snow away from a fire hydrant saved precious time when a fire broke out at a home on Medway Avenue on Monday morning.
A Congers resident saw a social media message about shoveling out fire hydrants and took the time to clear a hydrant nearby.
