Whether it’s a food drop off at the Sloatsburg Library, the Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce’s Have A Heart drive or through the giving of local businesses, such as Hayward’s Deli along Rt. 17 in Sloatsburg. Water Advisory For Johnsontown Road

Update: As of December 19, the Boil Water Alert for Johnsontown Road and two streets in Sloatsburg has been lifted. Residents living in the effected areas may resume normal water consumption.  

Boil, boil, toil, and trouble.

nyalertbannerRockland County Emergency Management has issued a United Water Boil Water Advisory for Johnsontown Road in unincorporated Ramapo, adjacent to Sloatsburg along Seven Lakes Drive. The NYAlert went out at 7:15 p.m. Saturday. The boil water alert concerns a water main break — residents on Johnsontown Road and #68, #70, #72, and #101 Seven Lakes Drive are advised to boil all water used for food preparation, cooking and drinking. Bath at your leisure.

The Tuxedo Chamber Mixes It Up

Bill Sweet and Lisa Favia sat patiently at the spacious Tuxedo Train Station, afternoon light brightening the interior, town Christmas tree towering at one end. The Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce dynamic duo were open for business for the day at the chamber’s new public digs.

The popular Tuxedo Chamber of Commerce Holiday Mixer will be held Thursday, December 12, at 6 p.m. at Tuxedo Junction Inn and provides a perfect opportunity to meet other chamber members.

Changing Seats At Ramapo Central School Board

The Ramapo Central School Board has experienced some topsy turvy this year with the departure of two board members.

The recent resignation from the BOE of Suffern Police Chief Clarke Osborn caused some community concerns about the district’s direction, especially coming in conjunction with the recent NY State Comptroller audit report that stated the district   had some $16 million dollars on books in “excess funds,” representing some 13% of the “subsequent school year’s budget.” Continue Reading

Join The Greater Suffern Chamber

holidaypartyThe Greater Suffern Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the holidays Wednesday — and you’re invited.

If you’d like to meet and greet those fellow folks in the surrounding business community, take out a $20 bill and visit Ole Ole at the corner of Lafayette Avenue & Orange Turnpike in downtown Suffern Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The popular Latin food restaurant — which also happens to be a member in good standing of the Greater Suffern Chamber — hosts this year’s holiday mixer. Find out what the chamber has planned for the new year. Big plans are afoot to unite local businesses. Visit Ole Ole and see what the chamber can do for you.

The Chamber’s Annual Holiday Celebration takes place Wednesday, December 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Ole Ole Restaurant. Cost is $20 at the door, or $25 which will include a raffle. For more information, email mateocomm@aol.com.

A Gathering Of Good Students

SHSNationalHonorSocietyThe best and brightest gathered this past week as Suffern High School passed the candle and welcomed new National Honor Society members.

Junior and senior inductees proceeded down the auditorium aisle to music from the SHS Chamber Orchestra, conducted by music wizard Daniel McCarter. After the procession, some of the orchestra students themselves took their place with other National Honor Society inductees.

A special congratulations goes out to former Suffern High School standout Elizabeth Flaherty who will be named an All American honorable mention for vollyball at Roger Williams College.
